Kid Print
Each day, more than 2,300 children are reported missing to local police departments throughout the country. The safety of children in Santa Clarita is important and taking steps to protect their future is vital. With that goal in mind, the City of Santa Clarita and its Sheriff’s Station have developed the ‘Operation Kid Print Program,’ making its debut at Sunday’s “Kid’s Expo” event held at Golden Valley High School.
The new booklet contains information that could be valuable if a child is lost or abducted. Sheriff’s Deputies from the Santa Clarita Station, supported by Volunteers and Explorers worked quickly to keep up with the line of kids who passed through the mobile command post vehicle to get their small fingerprints taken.
Parents are then given the card which contains space to attach a photograph of the child, insert fingerprints and provide other pertinent information. Parents are advised to update the child's photograph each year and to keep the other information current.
As the children waited patiently to get printed, several had an opportunity to take their picture with the new life-size Deputy stand-up and see how they might look in the future as a Deputy Sheriff.
Another important part of the Kid Print program and its card it to provide valuable information for both parents and their children relating to child safety. The City and Sheriff’s Department would like to remind both to never leave children alone or unattended in a car, public place, or grocery cart. Teach children their full name, address, and phone number with area code at an early age. Teach children to look for a police officer or other designated authority figure (store clerks) if they are separated from parents or get lost.
At an early age, teach children how to use the telephone, and dial ‘911’ only in case of an emergency. Many other tips can be found on the card for the children and parent to discuss.
